The CSM MA Fashion show was held on Friday 20th at the BFC Showspace, Somerset House, London. Earlier in the day, a memorial service for the late legendary CSM professor, Louise Wilson OBE, had been held at St Paul’s Cathedral. Now under the direction of Fabio Piras, the first cohort to graduate since Wilson’s death last May delivered an entertaining and varied show. The L’Oréal Professionnel Creative Award was jointly won by Matty Bovan and Beth Postle who share the £5,000 prize.

Matty Bovan’s colourful and creative knitwear collection opened the show. A succession of increasingly playful and sculptural shapes were paraded using lurex yarns, oversized mesh structures and wired and padded panels.

Beth Postle

Beth Postle’s pieces create a vehicle for her bold, graphic, layered textiles created through many processes. Hand cut, bonded and printed PVC is paired with oversized mesh for dramatic effect.

Hayley Grundmann

Hayley Grundmann creates some great textured womenswear pieces from synthetics – including knitted foam strips and dustbin liners. Strapless dresses and oversized tops and jackets were dramatic and decorative.

Krystyna Kozhoma

Krystyna Kozhoma’s dramatic womenswear has a sinuous sexuality. Her collection, in black and striking emerald green featured oversized decorative plaited structures that wound anaconda-like around the model’s bodies.

Paul Thompson

Also notable were Paul Thompson’s rich embroidered textiles. Beautifully rugged, sometimes ragged matt textures in black, gold and grey embellish soft, fluid shapes for women.

Erik Litzen

In menswear, Erik Litzen pairs fluid, oversized tailoring with sports styling for an interesting mix, while Ben Rice’s collection of refined utilitarian pieces was fresh and covetable with considered detailing.

Maximillian Reidlberger

Maximillian Reidlberger’s approach encompasses soft, oversized shapes in pale neutrals using minimal detail, while Charles Jeffrey’s menswear takes a more decorative route with bright, hand-painted abstract pattern adorning Aran sweaters and trousers.
